Hyperlinks to artifacts within your space are best represented as relative links. Using fully qualified (web link) URLs has a side effect of "page not found" if the underlying artifact is moved within your space. This article describes best practices for links in Confluence.
The general rule of thumb: if the item to be linked exists in Confluence, always try the search option first.
Artifact already exists in your space
If the item you want to link to already exists in your Confluence project space (or any other space you have access to), you would want to use relative links. This will protect the integrity of your content in the event the artifact is moved, its page is moved, or the project is migrated to another environment. If you use fully qualified URLs for these items, they are hard-coded to point to the original source. You can watch the Space/Page Link videos or follow the steps for Space/Page Link below.
Space/Page Link Step-by-step guide
- On your Confluence page, select the text you want to add a link to (or just create an empty link).
- Select the Search option and begin typing any part of the artifact or page you are looking for in the empty text box.
- Select the page you wish to link to from the search results.
- Save the link.
Artifacts in another space
- On your Confluence page, select the text you want to add a link to (or just create an empty link).
- On the right where it says, "All content", select the other space
- Begin typing the name of the page or artifact you wish to link to in the empty text box and select it from the search results.

Artifacts are external to Confluence
